I finally got a Powerbook

I got this for myself finally. I'm an old pro on the PC, but such a novice on the Mac. Sometimes I lose computer opportunities because I don't have a Mac.

Considering that if I got it new it would cost about 4 times more, I think I got a good buy. I just have to wait for it to be sent. I hate that part about ebay. I always worry if the seller will actually send it. Of course I got some ebay protections. I did pay through paypal so it's insured if I don't get it. However trying to reclaim money from ebay is like pulling teeth, except that when a tooth is pulled at least you know you can keep the tooth afterwards if I want it and that it gets resolved withtin the same day and with novocaine it's relatively painless.

I don't know if I'm ready to be an Apple person. I'm still a PC person mainly, and I intend to just work on both sides as needed.

However Apple people seem to be part of a cult. It's like a Hari Krishna trying to sell you a $2 flower for $3, but they tell you how much happier you will be when you come over to their side. When I go into the Apple store in Soho, NYC it's so incredibly clean and they seem to pump happy gas into the air. They've built an entire community there that can really suck a person in. Something about it kinda creeps me out a bit.

This is not to say that Apples aren't fine machines. However I remember the old joke about how a computer is like a woman. Once you get one, you wind up spending half your paycheck buying them accessories.

I wanted an Apple laptop because I wanted a prettier machine to show my work when traveling. Apples tend to be prettier machines. I just hope I won't become a cult member.
